Provide Your Pet Chew Toys, Save on Your Shoes!
Every pet needs to have his or her own dog chew toys, allowing the satisfaction of the craving
for gnawing, particularly for a young growing puppy. Dog toys given to your pet will save on
your personal belongings, like leather shoes, slippers and belts, which can be irresistible to
a young dog. If you start by giving your puppy personal belongings that you no longer need,
such as old shoes, socks or towels, he will then continue to satisfy his chewing needs on any
of your personal items carrying the same scent, whether they are new or old!
Provide your dog with a variety of chew toys, including a Kong toy, nylon bones, sterilized
marrow bones, and a soft twisted rope toy. Different dogs prefer different textures, and one
dog may prefer several different toys depending on the mood. Avoid home-made toys like worn-out
tennis shoes or knotted socks. It takes extra time to teach the dog the difference between the
old shoes and your brand-new running shoes, and certain fibers, like the nylon in socks or
pantyhose can be very dangerous to a dog when ingested. It is cheaper to spend money on good
dog toys than to replace your good clothes.
Hollow dog chew toys, such as the Kong or marrow bones, can be stuffed with peanut butter or
cheese to increase desirability. After some trial and error, you will discover what your dog
likes best. You may want to get a few different chew toys, and trade them off week to week, so
your dog always finds every toy new and interesting.
