For Safety and Security, A Dog Crate is Great!
A primary concern in dog care has got to be ensuring the
safety of your pet while traveling, and a dog crate is just
the answer. While it may seem unfair to lock up an animal in
a confined space, dogs are a very territorial species, with
instincts for den living. Due to this ancestral behavior, a
dog crate of the correct size will be quite a welcome retreat
for your pet. While it may take some encouragement and enticement,
such as dog treats or some favorite dog toys, to get Rover into the
dog carrier, once he is used to it, everyone involved will be happy!
When traveling, is your pet’s safety important to you, and the safety
of the rest of the occupants of the vehicle? Whether on a long trip,
or a short drive to the dog park, an animal roaming loose in the car
is a hazard. I do not know how many times I have seen someone driving
with a dog on their lap, and wondered how the driver can concentrate on
the road. Once you are driving, you really have no control over your pet,
so steps must be taken to secure the animal before getting behind the wheel.
While a dog harness is an option for the vehicle, a secured dog crate will
perform the same safety role, and if your dog is already used to being in it,
both driver and pet will travel safely and happily.
For longer travels, such as a move or vacation, and the need to transport
your pet by modes other than car come up, a dog crate is essential. Airlines
and railways will insist upon dog cages of some sort, and your four-legged
friend will be much more comfortable and less stressed if he is traveling in
familiar surroundings. And, if your best friend is comfortable, stress-free,
and happy, aren’t you, too?
