For the Secure Answer to Convenience, Dog Doors are the Way to Go
With today’s busy lifestyles keeping people away from their pets
for long hours, the answer to the inevitable guilty feeling may
be as simple as installing dog doors. How many times a day do
you need to leave your office, whether for calls of nature, a
breath of fresh air, or just a chance to stretch? Your pet, left
alone at home all day, deserves these same chances, and something
as simple as dog doors will provide these opportunities.
Security and safety will be the primary concerns when installing
dog doors. Obviously, keep it small enough that a grown human
cannot fit through, and the opening should be just large enough
for your pet to make it in and out of the house. A secure yard,
which is well lit at night, is the first step in keeping intruders
at bay, and usually the mere presence of a dog will send anyone with
unlawful intentions on to another target. When the dog is not at home,
or you will not be out long enough that your pet will need to get outside,
you can always lock the dog door, so that it will not open.
For the truly pampered pooch, there are actually electronic controlled,
motion detecting dog doors available, that will open when the animal
approaches, and automatically close when motion is no longer detected.
Others have remotes that go on a dog collar, which basically work the same
way. These are, of course, rather expensive, so if you need to ease the
burden on the wallet, a little time spent in training your dog on how to
use the manual type of door will save yourself a few bucks.
