Every Dog Must Have His Day; And His Own Dog House Would be Nice, Too!
For a place of comfort and security, every dog should have a space
to call his own, and what better place for your pet than his very
own dog house? From providing shelter in rain and inclement weather,
to shade on a hot summer’s day, a dog house will become a sanctuary to
your four-legged friend. Canines are instinctively den-oriented animals,
and will soon adapt to, and come to enjoy, their own private space.
While it may take some enticements to get your pet into its dog house,
there are a few ways to help him accept his new surroundings. Leaving
some of his favorite dog treats or dog toys in the doorway, then farther
in each time, will help convince Fido that this is a happy place. If
your pet already has a dog bed or dog crate that he is accustomed to,
placing this in the new house will also help him become comfortable in
the new surroundings.
For the handyman, there are a number of different dog house plans available,
many which come in pre-cut kits with somewhat easy assembly. While most
are made of durable wood, such as Western red cedar, there is also the
Igloo brand house, which is made of a heavy plastic. The benefits of these
plastic houses are that they are easy to clean, are made to withstand the
elements, and its construction is made as to help contain the animal’s heat
in the winter, while staying cooler in the summer. If that is not good enough,
some high end, but expensive, products come with built in heating and/or air
conditioning units.
