For Comfort and Safety, Dog Pens Offer It All
Dog pens give pets a cozy area where they are safe from harm, such as bigger dogs or
other wildlife, though they should never be left for lengthy periods without supervision.
Since most pets are likely to leave the yard, with the possibility of strolling into traffic
or becoming lost, dog pens will also keep them securely safe at home.
Dogs have a natural interest in their environment, and dog pens generally do not restrict the
animal’s ability to obtain information about their surroundings. The center of the yard is
ideal, so the animal has a view of all directions, but care must be taken to ensure that shade
is available at all times, keeping in mind the movement of the sun if the enclosure is to be
used for some time. If your pet will be in the pen while it is raining or windy, there should
be shelter from both provided. Water is essential at all times, and some dog treats or a few
favorite dog toys will keep your four-legged friend happy in his pen.
Dog pens generally provide excellent ventilation and an open view of the surroundings. The
enclosure must provide adequate space for the dog to move about more than a few paces in a
straight line, and the dimension of the pen should be at least four times the dog's length.
This does not mean he will be getting the required amount of exercise, so he will be as thrilled
as ever to go for a walk when he is let out.
