The Right Dog Toys to Bring Out the Kid in Your Dog
Gone are the days that old tennis balls or slippers were the
only dog toys for your pet. How many adults today look at the
toys now available for children, and start with that age old saying
of ‘When I was a kid…’? If our pets could talk, chances are our
older dogs will be looking at some of the flashing balls,
glow-in-the-dark Frisbees, dog toys that hold dog treats, etc., and
saying ‘When I was a pup…’.
With almost as many choices in dog toys as there are in children’s
toys, the possibilities of what to buy for your pet are endless.
For the smaller or less energetic house pets, perhaps a plush toy
or squeaky ball is sufficient. For an active dog, the Kong brand of
rubber toy on a rope, or the ingenious ball chucker will let the
owner easily provide a good workout for their high-energy pet. A
point to keep in mind with these chuckers, or any tennis ball that
a dog uses as a plaything, is to discard it immediately when it
becomes cracked or broken. The compound that a tennis ball is made
of will quickly wear down a canine’s teeth and cause major dental
problems. A hard rubber ball, specifically made for use with dogs,
would be a better choice.
With all these amazing dog toys to choose from, manufacturers have
even thought of how to store them. There are actually toy boxes
available for your pet’s toys, in shapes such as a dog bone or fire
hydrant. Of course, much like our children, there is no guarantee that
the dog will put his new toys away!
