Use a Dog Training Collar to Quickly Teach Your Pet
When looking for a dog training collar, keep in mind that there are many styles and
types. From your basic choke chain to the fancier electronic dog collars, the pet owner
must be careful to select from the training collars that best suits their needs. Before
starting any training with even a basic collar, the wise pet owner will consult their trainer
on the best type to use. Children and inexperienced handlers should only use a dog training
collar with proper supervision, and should never be used to tie any animal in place.
For most of the average dogs training collar needs, the basic choke chain or collar is
sufficient. Choke chains must be put on properly, so that they release the pressure as soon
as the dog is corrected. If they are put on incorrectly, the choker will not release when the
dog stops pulling. Also available are choke collars, which are generally cloth or nylon with
a two ring and a sliding chain system. The choke collar is only tight if the leash is being
pulled, and cannot be used to choke an animal, thus narrowing the margin for error. These types
of training collars are of best use with the basic come, sit, stay and heel commands.
The person who wants to spend off leash time with their dog may want to look at a more
sophisticated dog training collar. Electric pet collars are becoming more popular amongst
the working or hunting dogs. This type, as well as shock collars for dogs, should not be
used to teach commands, but may be used to reinforce them. Also in this line of fancy dog
collars are the anti barks collars, which are safe to leave on the dog unsupervised, and
either spray the animals face with water or emit a low shock when the dog barks. With proper
training, your dog training collars should not be needed for very long.
