Fancy Dog Collars are Fun and Fashionable for Your Pet
There are many factors to consider when looking at fancy dog collars for your pooch.
For years, dog owners have been asking themselves ‘what type of restraint do I use on
my canine?’ Fancy dog collars come in a countless number of patterns and designs. From a
simple pink leather dog collar, to decorative nylon dog collars with easy snap clips, all
are available in a rainbow of colors and patterns. As long as the collar is the correct type
and fit for your pet, your choices are limited only by your taste.
Conscientious pet owners should consider the following when looking at the range of fancy dog
collars available. Is the collar solely for decoration, or is it going to be used as a dog
training collar, or to correct a problem? If it is for training, a choke chain or adjustable
collar is the way to go; when used correctly, these collars give an owner control and an
effective means of discipline. Children or people that have not been shown proper techniques
by a trainer should never use a choke chain or collar. If the dog is pulling hard against the
collar, you might want to stay away from a nylon snap collar as the snaps, over time, will
loosen and may come apart. A sturdy collar (either nylon or leather) with buckles is best,
unless the collar is not going to have significant force on it.
Proper fit needs to a consideration when looking at fancy dog collars. They should be snug
enough to not slip over the head, but have enough slack to place two fingers sideways between
the collar and neck. Elasticized collars can fit slightly snugger, and are good for dogs that
spend a lot of time off leash and in brush areas. They should not, however, be used on a
regular walk, since it is easy for the animal to slip this type of collar. Whether for training,
or just walking your canine companion, you always want to put your best foot (or paw) forward!
