Nutrition is the Core of Nutro Dog Food
Since 1926, Nutro dog food has been producing a higher quality product than others on
the market. Originating in Britain, a new owner moved the company to Southern California,
and generated a loyal customer base in the Southwest. For 30 years after World War 2, the
Nutro dog food company remained a family business, though remained available only regionally.
With new ownership in 1976, the Nutro dog food began to compete effectively with the larger
names in the industry, while focusing on one goal - manufacturing pet food to help dogs and
cats live longer, happier lives. Ten years of research and development led to Nutro’s first
super-premium dog food reaching the market, when Nutro introduced the MAX line in 1985. Over
the years since then, the MAX dog food line has been expanded to include a variety of products
for every stage of a dog’s life, as well as high quality treats and biscuits.
The Ultra line has recently been added to the Nutro dog food line. This holistic approach to
feeding includes ingredients such as chicken, lamb and salmon meal, which are a better source of
protein than the wheat and corn meal used by many manufacturers. While this line contains
sunflower oil, for a healthy and shiny coat, and flax seed and fish oil for the cardio-supporting
Omega 3 fatty acids, it does not contain chemical preservatives, food coloring or by-products.
This allows the company to challenge anyone to refute their claim that their products
are ‘better than anything else out there’.
