Pet Gates Keep Your Pooch in Check, and Out of Trouble!
Pet gates are a fairly simple and inexpensive way to keep your dog from areas in
which you do not want him. Available for indoor and outdoor confinement and in
an assortment of sizes, durable and strong pet gates are convenient room barriers.
Most have a one handed gate latch and locking features, making them the perfect item
for separating your pet from children or clean rooms, or perhaps confining a puppy
that still requires housebreaking.
There are basically two types of mounting for pet gates, pressure mounted and hardware
mounted. Pressure mounting just means that springs or adjustable clips or feet are used
to hold the gate in place between two solid surfaces. This type is suitable between rooms
or in hallways, but should not be used at the top of stairs or as a way of keeping the
animal out of danger (for example, it should not act as a fence gate to keep the pet
off the street). A child or large dog can easily knock this type of gate out of place,
so they should be used only for convenience, but where it is not a safety issue should
it be knocked out of place.
For areas that are permanently out of bounds to the dog, and anywhere that leads to a
risky area (stairs, street, etc.), hardware mounted pet gates should be used. This type
of gate is held in place with screws mounted directly into a solid wall or wood post.
This provides the maximum strength and protection for the safety of your dog, keeping him
and you healthy and happy.
