Selecting the Right Dog Toy for Your Pet
When purchasing a new dog toy, it is important to take into consideration the size of the
dog the toy is for and to get an item that is the suitable size. If the dog toy is too large,
it is most likely that your pet will not play with it. On the other hand, if the toy is too
small, it could be a potential choking hazard. As with any new dog toy that is given to your
pet, the owner should supervise the initial play to ensure that there are no problems.
The second thing to consider before making a purchase is what type of play does your dog like
to partake in? If he likes Tug-of-War, perhaps a rope toy is best. For active dogs that like to
fetch or retrieve, a Kong on a rope or a Chuck-It would be great. Perhaps your pet has maternal
instincts or just needs a comfort toy? Soft, plush dog toys that can be carried around are very
easy to find, and inexpensive. Squeaky toys will sometimes entertain a dog for hours, as long as
you can put up with the constant noise!
You might want to select a toy that gratifies a dog’s natural inclination, such as the
aforementioned ideas, or get something completely different, to provide stimulating entertainment
and teach your pet something new. Look for dog toys that can be stuffed with treats or goodies,
as this will help keep a dog occupied and out of trouble for hours!
